Chisinau, Feb. 5 /MOLDPRES/- New deputy prime minister for European integration Cristina Gherasimov took the oath of office today. The event was held at the presidency before President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

The ceremony began with the singing of the national anthem of the Republic of Moldova. Maia Sandu wished success to the new minister and outlined the main priorities in the field.

"Given that we have got a positive decision from the EU member states on initiation of accession negotiations, we are entering a decisive phase of the European integration process. We have managed to build very good relations with the EU states and to gain their trust, but now we have to move decisively to adjust the laws of the Republic of Moldova to those of the EU. We have an ambitious plan, so there is a lot of work and it is necessary for the government, central and local public administration authorities to unite around a major effort, which will speed up the European integration process. Cristina Gherasimov has experience in state institutions, which will help us be able to organize the process efficiently, move quickly, reach the finish line and celebrate the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU. It is an enormous responsibility, but I am confident that the Government team, led by Prime Minister and with the tireless effort of Cristina Gerasimov will succeed in carrying out these ambitious plans", the president said.

The new position of Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration was recently set up following the change in the government structure.

Cristina Gherasimov is 39 years old and previously served as state secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and advisor on foreign policy and European integration to President Maia Sandu.
