Four Czech organizations to implement innovative projects with partners from Moldova

Chisinau, 5 February /MOLDPRES/ - Four innovative solutions will be put into practice in Moldova, due to the Czech Innovation Fund, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the financial support of the Czech Foreign Affairs Ministry. Each project will benefit from up to 40,000 dollars and will be carried out till November 2024.     

The Czech Innovation Fund is set to transfer innovative solutions and Czech know-how, in order to approach the development challenges from Moldova and to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  

Those four projects selected for financing in 2024 are: the Caritas Czech NGO, in cooperation with the public authorities from the Bilicenii Vechi village, will develop and set a system of collection of rain water, in order to improve the resilience of the village to natural disasters and to develop the sustainable development; the Big Terra Czech company, in cooperation of the National Association of Rural Development from Moldova, will test the regenerative vine-growing of Moldova and will enhance its resilience and sustainability to the climate challenges; the Czech NGO Arnika, in partnership with the BIOTICA Public Association, will approach the issue of management of the protected areas, having limited resources, modernizing the networks and promoting the environmental governance; Academy of Science of the Czech Republic, the Institute of Experimental Botany, will work with researchers from the Moldovan State University on the analysis of the transcriptome of  tomatoes resistant to the pathogenic organisms, by turning to account the technology of sequencing the disoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), in order to replicate the resistance at other genotypes of tomatoes.     

„We are happy to implement projects with significant potential, relevant for both countries and in many fields which can improve the life of the local communities. A special attention was paid to the green technologies and the climate changes, which will affect our lives more and more,’’ the representative of the Czech-UNDP Partnership for SDGs at the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and Central Asia, Jana Kostrounova, said.   

The partnership between UNDP and the Czech Republic backs innovative solutions used in the private sector, by non-governmental organizations, universities, state institutions, research centres and private people from the Czech Republic. The projects of the Czech Innovation Fund are focused on the settlement of concrete challenges of development from six partner countries (Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Ethiopia, Cambodia, Zambia). The implementation is financially backed by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Czech Republic. In Moldova, the Czech Innovation Fund has already supported 21 projects.
