Chisinau, 9 Feb. /MOLDPRES/- The stage of assessing the compliance of national legislation with the Community acquis will begin with the analysis of the justice and fundamental rights sector. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov made the statement at a press conference, where the results of the working visit to Brussels were presented.

According to the official, during the visit the process of evaluating the degree of compliance of the national legislation with that of the European Union was started.

"The meeting included discussions with European Commission officials, who will work together with the government team throughout the negotiation process. The timetable and procedural details of the assessment stage were agreed. This stage is a long one and is carried out in chapters. On February 21 - 22, we return to Brussels to have a first analysis of EU legislation in the justice and fundamental rights. Accession negotiations begin and end with this chapter. How fast we get closer to the EU depends on the cleansing of justice, on the existence of a rule of law. A European state means a state where justice works. This is exactly what we want for European Moldova. At the same time, we continue to implement the last three recommendations of the European Commission. Depending on the result achieved, we will have news regarding the next stage, namely the establishment of the first inter-governmental meeting, which will set the framework for negotiations, where a plan of actions, procedures, principles and negotiations will be established", said Cristina Gerasimov.

The official approached the reorganization of the internal coordination process in the field of European integration. "The European Integration Office will be the new coordination center for our domestic efforts. Currently, several recruitment contests have been completed. The institution will have a head and several subdivisions. At the same time, we will work together with the team of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to bring the Republic of Moldova into the EU", Cristina Gherasimov said.

Gherasimov paid a working visit to Brussels on February 7. This was Cristina Gherasimov's first visit abroad, after being sworn in as deputy prime minister for European integration.
