Moldovan agriculture minister unveils report in parliament

Chisinau, 15 February /MOLDPRES/ - Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vladimir Bolea today in parliament unveiled a report on the ministry’s work and the situation in the agricultural sector. The official answered questions by lawmakers and was criticized by the opposition.  

According to the agriculture minister, about 70 per cent of the subsidization fund was used by small- and medium-sized farmers and the farmers from the southern Moldova are the worst hit. Bolea said that over 2,000 producers from the southern region had received by 1,240 lei per one hectare. ‘’This year, the worst hit of them will receive 2,500 lei per one hectare,’’ the minister noted.     

Vladimir Bolea specified that the farmers had submitted 121 files on the settlement of the debts to banks to the commission for the analysis of the problems from the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA). Following their examination, decision-makers found out that seven economic agents which had had debt periods for years got into insolvency and eight of them were in process of submitting additional information to creditors. Bolea also said that 200 farmers had appealed to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for consultancy and 21 received force majeure certificates with which they can go to creditors.  

The agriculture minister presented his report in parliament, after during more days more farmers had protested and blocked the access to one border crossing point.
