Over 300 judges participate in General Assembly of Judges in Moldova

Chisinau, 1 March /MOLDPRES/ - Over 300 judges out of all those 365 magistrates in office today participate in the General Assembly of Judges. Alexandru Spoiala was elected president of the Assembly, with the votes of 166 magistrates.    

The acting president of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), Sergiu Caraman, opened the Assembly, noting that the event was declared deliberative, as the simple majority of judges take part in it.    

Attending the event were Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, who gave a speech before the judges, the CSM members, representatives of diplomatic missions, of the Agency for Court Administration, of the civil society, international observers and mass media representatives.     

Till the noon, Alexandru Spoiala from the Chisinau Court of Appeal was elected president of the General Assembly of Judges with the votes of 166 judges present and Nelea Budai from the Chisinau Court of Appeal – as secretary of the meeting.   

The summoning of the General Assembly of Judges at an ordinary meeting was decided under a decision by the CSM Plenum from 29 December 2023. The goal of the meeting is the reporting of CSM’s work as to the organization and functioning of the judicial system in the 2023 year. At the same time, a new CSM member is to be elected at the Assembly’s meeting.
