Moldovan parliament speaker has meeting with Romanian Senate's president

Chisinau, 1 March /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today had a meeting with Romanian Senate’s President Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca, on an official visit to Moldova, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.   

Attending the meeting were Deputy Parliament Speaker Doina Gherman and the head of the parliamentary group of friendship with Romania, Veronica Rosca.  

Speaker Igor Grosu welcomed the presence of the high guest of Romania in Moldova’s parliament and appreciated the support Moldova enjoyed on behalf of Romania. In discussions, the officials tackled subjects on the agenda of reforms, the inter-parliamentary cooperation, cooperation in the energy sector and speeding up of the infrastructure projects. In this respect, Igor Grosu said that the Moldovan and Romanian authorities were in full process of advancing on important fields of infrastructure, such as the energy cooperation through the carrying out of the project which sees the construction of the Suceava-Balti overhead power line of 400 kV. Also, the sides plan to build another four bridges across the Prut river.    

The two presidents of parliament also discussed possibilities of extending the cooperation in the economic and investment sectors. The Moldovan speaker noted that Romania continued to be the most important commercial partner of Moldova. At the same time, Igor Grosu expressed gratitude for the organization of the second Economic Forum under the auspices of the Royal House of Romania, which brought together over 300 foreign companies. ‘’We hope that, following such joint events, we manage to encourage as many as possible foreign investors to come to Moldova,’’ Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said.  

At the meeting, the officials referred also to the European integration way of Moldova. In this respect, Igor Grosu stressed that Romania’s experience in the process of accession to the European Union was valuable for Moldova. The Moldovan speaker also said that equally important was also the support provided by Romanian MPs for Moldova’s promotion, as well as the expertise concerning the approximation of the national legislation to the European normative framework.  

The visit to the parliament by the Romanian lawmakers on the first day of spring was marked in an original way. Thus, small children from the Concordia Placement Centre of the Cosnita settlement gave the guests Martisors (March trinkets) – symbols of the spring, revival and hope.    

On 1-2 March, President of the Romanian Senate Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca is on a visit to Chisinau. On his visit, the official is accompanied by European MPs Siegfried Muresan and Rares Bogdan, as well as by the state secretary of the Department for Relation with Moldova, Adrian Dupu.
