Chisinau, 22 March /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union has approved a document which regards the domestic reforms and the revising of the European Union’s policies before the enlargement. According to a press release by the European institution from 20 March this year, the document will contribute to the process of discussions between the member states, as regards the policies, budget and governance , protecting, at the same time, the fundamental values, the government’s communication department has reported.

This initiative lays the foundations of the revisions of the policies ahead of the enlargement announced by the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in her speech on the state of the Union from 2023.

„We must now start preparing for the future Union and to use the enlargement as a catalyst of progress. The entire Europe benefited from the enlargement, which turned EU into the biggest integrated market of the world. This opened the commercial and commercial flows, thus contributing to the economic growth both in EU and in the countries on the way of accession,’’ the communique reads.

Also, the European Commission informed that the states candidates might benefit from certain advantages similar to the ones of the EU member states in some sectors, even before the accession. According to the quoted source, for these benefits to be materialized, both EU and the countries candidates must be well-prepared, as the accession process is based on merits and on the firm and lasting political commitment.

The deep revision of the policies will be made by the European Commission in early 2025. Depending on the result, the second stage of this process might consist in the presentation of substantial proposals of reform in each sector, including the preparation of the Commission’s proposal for the next long-term budget.
