17:20 | 02.04.2024 Category: Tourist Moldova

After a long process of restoration, in optimal conditions of display, according to international standards of conservation and protection of historical monuments, the Church Adormirea Maicii Domnului in Causeni was reopened to the public and included in the national tourist network.

The conservation and restoration project of the Church, in the custody of the National Art Museum of Moldova, was coordinated by the Centre for Archaeological Research of the Republic of Moldova, and was carried out with the financial support of the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, granted from the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Safeguarding. At the same time, the works of infrastructure, systematization and arrangement of the related land, as well as the reconstruction of auxiliary spaces and installation of engineering systems were coordinated by the National Art Museum of Moldova, financially supported by the state budget.

The mural painting of the church was restored over seven years (2017-2023) by a team of restorers from Romania. The conservation/restoration works of the painting, as well as the archaeological researches around the church, and some categories of rehabilitation/reconstruction of the historical monument (floors, roof and foundation ventilation channel) were financed from the grant of USD 1,068,000. At the same time, the works of systematization and arrangement of the related land, as well as the reconstruction of auxiliary spaces, installation of engineering systems were carried out in 2020-2022 by construction teams from the Republic of Moldova, the total cost being 6,335,409 lei.

On the site of the current building there was an older wooden church, which has completely ruined, according to the Romanian votive inscription inside.

The interior of the Church is painted in fresco by painters Stanciul, Radu and Voicul.

It can be said that the restoration of the Church, as well as other places restored through European cross-border projects, means an influx of tourists, who come to visit us, get to know us and invest in the country's economy.
