Chisinau, April 5 /MOLDPRES/- The National Art Museum of Moldova held yesterday the Forum of creators and owners of movable cultural property. The event was the first of its kind in Moldova and aimed to contribute to the protection and use of movable cultural assets - the supreme wealth for any people.

Attending the event, Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan congratulated the Service for Recording and Circulation of Mobile Cultural Assets which, under the auspices of UNESCO and in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, organised the meeting and thanked the development partners for their support.

In this context, and in the logic of our country's ratification of the Hague Convention for protection of cultural property in the event of armed conflict, the Ministry of Culture expressed interest in ratifying the Second Protocol to the Convention. Protocol 2 prohibits the intentional destruction of cultural property, stipulates that its intentional destruction in an armed conflict may be a criminal offence and promotes the preservation and restoration of cultural property damaged by armed conflict.

The Minister of Culture took the opportunity to welcome UNESCO Director for Culture and Emergencies Krista Pikkat to the forum, as she will put the issues discussed in Chisinau on the agenda of international fora. Cooperation with UNESCO was also discussed at the meeting the two officials had this morning at the Ministry of Culture.

"The Republic of Moldova has ratified most of the UNESCO conventions on culture and heritage protection and we are counting on the same openness and support for the ratification of the Second Protocol to the Convention. We also examined the opportunity to organise a training on heritage protection in Chisinau this year", said Sergiu Prodan after the meeting.
