Chisinau, April 13 /MOLDPRES/- 80 pupils and students from our country are taking part in an educational exercise to simulate the legislative process in the European Parliament. The action takes place under the Model EU Moldova initiative, hosted by the Moldovan Parliament on 12-14 April.

According to the parliament's communication and public relations department, young people take part in workshops where they analyze topics to be debated on the parliamentary platform, how European institutions work, debate techniques and public speaking skills. The activity will culminate in a simulation of EU negotiation and decision-making processes. It is held during the European Youth Week 2024, organised by the European Commission to promote youth involvement, participation and active citizenship.

Attending the opening of the event, Speaker Igor Grosu praised the participation of young people in activities that encourage their involvement in the decision-making process. "I see a direct participation of young people in the process of European integration. I wish that these young people, in years to come, will represent the Republic of Moldova in the European Parliament, but for this we must work together so that Moldova becomes European", said Igor Grosu.

EU Ambassador to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks said he was impressed by the commitment shown by the participants. "Youth and civic activism is one of the EU's priorities. You are the ones who can move things around and the EU supports you. Your involvement is crucial to the development of society," he said.

Deputy Head of the German Embassy in Moldova Peter Buschmann, GIZ Moldova Representative Marilena Lambertz and State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Research Galina Rusu came up with messages of support for young people.

According to the agenda, young people will meet with President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu and MEP Siegfried Mureșan, and will discuss the role of young people in the EU accession process. Young people will also participate in debate workshops, simulate the work of standing committees and the plenary session of the European Parliament.

The event is organised with the financial support of the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, under EU4Youth: Youth Engagement and Empowerment project, implemented by the German International Cooperation Agency in cooperation with the EU NEIGHBOURS east programme, the National Youth Council of Moldova and Europe Café. The event takes place in the context of the European Year of Skills to boost young people to get involved in the decision-making process.
