Moldovan top court approves draft amendment to Constitution on EU accession referendum

Chisinau, April 16 /MOLDPRES/ - Constitutional Court (CC) has approved a draft law on amending the Constitution, which provides for the organisation of a referendum on Moldova's accession to the European Union and the inclusion of the desire in the Constitution.

The Court's opinion sees "the initiative to revise the Constitution by referendum corresponds to legal norms".

The complaint was filed with the CC on 9 April by 46 deputies of the Action and Solidarity Party.

The Court's opinion enters into force upon the adoption and is published in the Official Journal.

The referendum on Moldova's accession to the European Union was initiated by President Maia Sandu and is due to take place on the same day as the presidential elections.
