Moldovan, Norwegian officials approach cooperation

Chisinau, April 17 /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean  had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway Espen Barth Eide. They discussed the country's energy security, Moldova's European integration and strengthening Moldovan-Norwegian relations in areas of mutual interest.

Recean referred to the financial assistance provided by the Norwegian side for the education and defence sectors, and in particular for supporting energy projects in our country. According to the Prime Minister, last year, the grant offered through the Nansen support program was directed including for natural gas supply and storage.

"We will continue to work and develop, together with our partners, projects that will enhance Moldova's energy security. We are focusing on economic recovery and investment in green energy, and Norway is the country that can help us in this regard," he said.

The premier said that the authorities are working to create a secure business environment, stressing that Moldova offers a number of opportunities for entrepreneurs, especially in areas such as information technology, electronics and the transition to green energy. He also highlighted the potential for cooperation with the Kingdom of Norway in the areas of trade, diversification of energy sources and agricultural industrialisation.

The parties also talked about cooperation in the environment and afforestation, the rehabilitation of infrastructure in our country in the context of the reconstruction process in Ukraine, as well as the opening of the embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Chisinau.

"The establishment of the embassy in the near future will send a clear signal of our support for the Republic of Moldova, the reforms initiated by the authorities and for Moldova's European path", Espen Barth Eide said.
