Chisinau, April 20 /MOLDPRES/. "For two years now, on the third Saturday of April, the Day of Remembrance of Victims of 1946-1947 famine is marked. On behalf of those who went through those terrible days, let us not forget this dark period of our past." Speaker Igor Grosu made the statements on Day of Remembrance of victims of 1946-1947 famine.

"This is the only way we will better understand history, we will understand the suffering our ancestors, grandparents and parents went through, no matter what language they spoke, what beliefs they held, how old they were, because in those terrible months the most vulnerable, children and the elderly, suffered first of all. For this we must talk about the terrible famine organised by the communist regime in Soviet Russia, which hundreds of thousands of people endured", said Grosu.

He said that during this month, Luceafărul Theatre is touring the country to perform the documentary theatre show "1946". "It is a moving play that must be seen by every citizen of this country. It is our duty to talk about famine, deportations, all the atrocities that any authoritarian and dictatorial regime of all times produces," the official concluded.

Moldova marks the Day of Remembrance of the victims of the 1946-1947 famine on the third Saturday in April. This date was approved by the government in 2022 to restore the memory of more than 200,000 victims of the famine - an artificial famine created by the communist Soviet regime.
