10:25 | 23.04.2024 Category: Official

Chisinau, April 23 /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Igor Grosu delivered a speech at the Conference of Speakers of the European Union. He called on his counterparts to support our country in the struggle for democracy, modernization and progress.

"Support for Ukraine also means support for the Republic of Moldova, because our countries have decided to break away from the former empire and live in a free, peaceful and prosperous world. I am sure that together we will succeed, it will not be easy, but with a lot of intelligence, patience and perseverance we will ensure that our future and that of our children will be peaceful and prosperous", said Grosu.

In his speech, the official also mentioned that 2024 is an important year for the future of the Republic of Moldova, as the referendum initiated by President Maia Sandu will be held to confirm the irreversibility of integrating the Republic of Moldova into the European Union. In this context, there is a risk of extensive disinformation campaigns initiated by the Russian Federation to influence the results of the presidential elections and hijack the European path of the Republic of Moldova.

"However, we are sure that the Russian Federation will try by all means to hijack this process. Sophisticated modern techniques using artificial intelligence and especially information channels are used to mislead public opinion, to create panic and unrest among the population," Grosu said.

The event is held on 21- 24 April 2024, and is hosted by the Royal Palace of La Almudaina in Palma, Spain. Its agenda focuses on two thematic sessions - foreign policy and defence - and is attended by the presidents of EU parliaments, the European Parliament's leadership and the presidents of the parliaments of candidate countries.
