Chisinau, 9 May /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova chooses the European Union, as the peace is out priority. The accession to EU puts Moldova on a way of development, which will give our citizens a peaceful and safe future at home. President Maia Sandu today made statements to this effect at the official opening of the event dedicated to the Europe Day. Attending the action was also European Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn.

The Moldovan president stressed that a European Moldova was a country where the people are free, where the state’s institutions and the law work in the interest of the citizens.

„Today is a day with double significance for Moldova and for the entire world. An end was put to the war on this day. The Day of Victory over the Nazism and the Europe Day are not in contradiction, but represent continuity. The Victory Day is the day of peace on the European continent. The wounds of the war are the same for the entire Moldova. More than 260,000 fellow countrymen fought against the Nazi Germany, 56,000 of them did not return home from war. Presently, the war started in Europe again and we cannot enjoy the guarantee of peace. The war was started by Russia in Ukraine and is an insult against those who gave their lives for the peace between the nations of Europe. We must do our utmost, so that there is peace and good understanding in our home, just as in a great family,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The official emphasized that the European Union had always guaranteed the peace between its countries.

„Moldova chooses EU, as the peace is our priority. We should not allow anybody to put borders between us; we should preserve alive the memory or our heroes and work together for peace. We want peace, as we love our home and family. A European Moldova is a country with strong and reliable friends, with whom we can be in safety. The EU provides higher salaries and pensions, free movement, a longer life expectancy and stable market for entrepreneurs. We should turn Moldova into a European state till the 2030 year. In next October, our country will decide its future by voting. Come to the referendum, we should edify our future together!  We want to remain at home and we want EU to be our home. We want the dear people who left abroad to be willing to return home. We want a strong and independent country. We would be proud of our Moldova. The EU countries appreciate our customs, the villages, cuisine and the kindness. Long live the  European Union, long live the European Moldova,’’ President Maia Sandu said.

Moldova today marks the Europe Day. On this occasion, the government and the European Union’s Delegation organize more actions in the centre of Chisinau, through which the European values and culture, as well as the assistance provided by EU and the member states for the benefit of Moldova’s citizens will be highlighted.
