Head of State ends visit to Germany

Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/ - Moldovan President Maia Sandu was in the Federal Republic of Germany on 17 - 18 May. This visit underlines the commitment of Moldova and Germany to strengthen bilateral relations and advance the European path of our country, the presidential press service has reported.

The head of state held meetings with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Chancellor Olaf Scholz, German Speaker Bärbel Bas and members of the parliamentary committees on foreign and European affairs. Discussions focused on deepening economic ties with Germany, an important source of investment in Moldova. At the same time, the head of state discussed with German officials the steps to be taken by our country to become a member of the European Union in the near future.

"Germany is a strong and important ally of the Republic of Moldova on our way to the European Union, democracy and prosperity. German leaders support Moldova's accession to the EU so that our citizens can live in peace, good understanding and prosperity," said Maia Sandu.

President Sandu received the Robert Blum Award for Democracy 2024, awarded under the patronage of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The prize is accompanied by the sum of €25,000, which will be donated. "This prize is not only a recognition of my efforts, but also a testament to the resilience and determination of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova on the road to democracy," said the President.

The head of state also held meetings with Moldovan communities in Berlin and Frankfurt am Main. "Our citizens abroad are true ambassadors of Moldova and, through their efforts, they make our work of promoting the country easier," Maia Sandu said.
