Government approved: Moldovan buildings will have to hold energy performance certificates
Chisinau, Sep 12 /MOLDPRES/- New buildings, those undergoing renovation, as well as those to be sold or rented will be required to undergo an energy certification procedure. They will be placed in an energy performance category on a scale from A (the most efficient) to G (the least efficient). The regulation providing for this was approved by the government on Wednesday.
The certification will be carried out by qualified energy assessors and the certification process will include data collection, building inspection and energy consumption analysis.
The document also provides for the establishment of an electronic register of energy certificates, which will facilitate public access to information on the energy performance of buildings.
"The adoption of this Regulation will make it easier to carry out energy audits and is an important step to support Moldova's green transition. It will also help reduce carbon emissions and increase energy efficiency in the buildings sector," said Energy Minister Victor Parlicov.
The regulation sets out the specific requirements and steps needed to certify the energy performance of buildings, including the drawing up of energy performance certificates, the management of the electronic register of certificates and how to inform potential buyers or tenants about the energy efficiency of buildings.
Certain buildings are exempted from the procedure. These include buildings protected as historical monuments, places of worship and buildings used for religious activities, as well as temporary, industrial and agricultural buildings that are not intended for habitation. Buildings with a useful floor area of less than 50 m² are also exempted.
