Moldova reaches new renewable energy record: 48% share surpassed on 29 June

The Republic of Moldova has reached a new renewable energy record. On June 29, the share of electricity from domestic renewable sources in total electricity consumption exceeded 48%. During some time slots, renewable sources generated over 82% of the consumed energy, according to data from the Ministry of Energy.

“This achievement was made possible by the increase in renewable generation capacities, reduced electricity consumption during holidays, and favorable weather conditions,” highlighted the Ministry of Energy.

For comparison, in April, 36% of the country's total electricity consumption was covered by locally produced renewable sources, while in March the share of local green energy was about 23%.

According to statistics, over the last five years, photovoltaic and wind generation capacities have increased eightfold, reaching 689 MW in the current May.

The Republic of Moldova has set the objective of achieving a 30% share of renewable energy in electricity consumption and 27% of renewable energy in final energy consumption by 2030. In 2024, the share of renewable electricity was 16.7%, and authorities estimate that this year it will increase to 27%.
