Moldovan Energy Ministry, U.S. Embassy in Chisinau launch working group for Straseni–Gutinas power line

The Energy Ministry Moldelectrica enterprise, Black & Veatch and the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau have launched a working group for the Straseni–Gutinas power line. The project will strengthen the energy security and independence of Moldova.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, the initiative represents an important step towards Moldova’s energy future.

“This project will strengthen the energy security and independence of Moldova, expand opportunities for U.S. companies and technologies in more sectors and deepen the economic partnership between the United States and Moldova,” the diplomatic mission emphasized.

The Straseni–Gutinas power line is a strategic investment, meant to enhance interconnection capacity with the ENTSO-E system through Romania, helping to boost electricity transfer capacity and ensure a secure and stable supply for consumers.

This will be the third high-voltage power line to interconnect Moldova with Romania and, consequently, the European Union. The project’s estimated cost is approximately 130 million dollars, with funding provided by the Government of the United States.

The project is part of efforts to modernize the national energy infrastructure, alongside other interconnection initiatives, such as the Vulcanesti–Chisinau and Balti–Suceava power lines. The Straseni–Gutinas line, with an estimated length of approximately 70 km on the territory of Moldova, will cross 25 localities in the districts of Straseni, Calarasi, Nisporeni and Hancesti.

Additionally, the project will create opportunities for U.S. companies and enable the country to adopt and use American technologies. In this way, it will unlock potential in more sectors, including transport infrastructure, grid optimization technologies, information and communications technology (ICT), nuclear energy, and battery storage.
