Moldovan deputy PM for European integration meets president of EU Court of Justice
Chisinau, 13 November /MOLDPRES/ - An independent and efficient justice is the only way for the edification of the rule of law state, of a strong economy and a sustainable society. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov has made statements to this effect. She met President of the European Union Court of Justice (CJEU) Koen Lenaerts in Luxembourg.
„An independent, impartial and honest judicial system is one of the pillars of the European Union. For us, an independent and efficient justice is the only way for the edification of the rule of law state, of a strong economy and a sustainable society,’’ Cristina Gherasimov said.
The deputy PM stressed that, in its capacity of country candidate for EU, Moldova wanted an as active as possible cooperation with CJEU, noting that the country was interested, in particular, in the programmes on professional training of judges. ‘’Some of our magistrates already benefit from them. Thus, in February 2024, CJEU was visited by a group of judges of Moldova’s Constitutional Court, who were involved in an ample exchange of experience and of good practices,’’ Gherasimov said.
Cristina Gherasimov also said that, after Moldova becomes EU member country, the latter would delegate a judge to CJEU.
Koen Lenaerts has recently started his fourth mandate of President of the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Started in 1952, CJEU is made up of judges nominated by each of those 27 member states and ensures the uniform enforcement and interpretation of the EU legislation in all European Union states.
