PM says all reforms initiated by Moldova's government have common direction: European integration
The European Union is offering us a window of opportunity that Moldova has never had before. In the context, all reforms initiated by the government have a common direction—European integration—with the ultimate goal of concluding accession negotiations by the beginning of 2028. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has made statements to this effect, who today presented today the results of the cabinet’s first 100 days in office.
The PM emphasized that the progress achieved by Moldova in the European integration process had been confirmed by the European Commission in its Enlargement Report, published on November 4. In the document, the Commission stresses that the goal of completing accession negotiations by early 2028 is ambitious, but achievable, if the pace of reforms is maintained.
“All reforms initiated have a common direction: European integration. This is the common thread that unites them all. The European Commission’s report, published yesterday, confirms the progress made by Moldova. Four of the six clusters have already been opened, and the Commission considers that Moldova meets the conditions for opening all the remaining clusters. The goal of completing the technical work by the beginning of 2028 is ambitious, but achievable, if we maintain the pace. We are not the ones saying this—the European Commission says in its report that we can complete the negotiations by early 2028,” said Vasile Tofan.
According to the PM, the European Union is offering Moldova a window of opportunity that it has never had before, but the final outcome depends on the reforms we implement at home.
“The European Union is offering us a window of opportunity that Moldova has never had before. We have access to financing, access to the European market and unprecedented political support. We have partners who want to see us succeed. But no one will carry out the reforms instead of us, and no one can build Moldova instead of us,” the official emphasized.
Vasile Tofan said that Europe means better roads, strong institutions, modern schools and hospitals and a prosperous economy.
“European integration is not a separate chapter of this government’s work, nor is it merely the work of a team of negotiators in Brussels. Europe also means better roads, electricity interconnections with Romania, running water in a village, a better school and a hospital that provides treatment closer to home. It means a company that can export without losing two weeks to get a permit or an investor who can build a factory without having to fight the state. It means institutions that function and rules in which people and companies can have confidence,” the prime minister said.
At the same time, PM Vasile Tofan warned that, as Moldova draws increasingly closer to its European integration objective, “those who want us to stumble and who do not want us ever to integrate the country into the European Union will shout even louder.”
Under these circumstances, the prime minister emphasized that the direction remained clear: a more competitive economy, a more efficient state and a Moldova increasingly prepared for European integration.
“Kilometer by kilometer, project by project, reform by reform, we are building Moldova and bringing Moldova into the European Union,” Vasile Tofan concluded.
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan today presented the Report on the results of the government’s first 100 days in office. The document includes 182 results, decisions and projects completed or initiated during this period. According to the official, during the first 100 days, an extensive agenda of reforms and economic priorities was set in motion, during a not at all simple period.
