Moldovan speaker sent petition to top court
Chisinau, 9 April /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Zinaida Greceanii submitted today to the Constitutional Court a petition requesting the interpellation of "amicus curiae" of the European Commission for Democracy through Law of the Council of Europe on notification finding circumstances justifying dissolution of parliament.
According to the parliament's press service, the document reads "democracy and the democratic regime are characterized by certain essential features, and its foundation is political pluralism and principle of the majority."
"Under these circumstances, I express my reluctance on the intention of the President of the Republic of Moldova to initiate dissolving the Parliament, expressed by Notification No71 of 29 March 2021 on finding the circumstances that justify the dissolution of the Parliament.
In this context, given the major impact of the case on both society and the rule of law, in order to obtain an equidistant opinion, I consider it eminently necessary and ask you interpellation of amicus curiae of the European Commission on Democracy by Law of the Council of Europe”, Greceanii said.
