Chisinau, 08 July /MOLDPRES/ – The use and marketing of disposable plastic bags will be forbidden in Moldova. A law on this issue was adopted by Parliament on 07 July.

According to the law, both the marketing and the use of disposable plastic bags will be prohibited. For violating the provisions of the law, the economic agents and the citizens will be fined.

The new document will come into force gradually from 2019, initially for large commercial units, then for small ones. The authors of the law propose replacing plastic bags with paper, cloth or starch.

According to official data, each citizen annually uses at least 140 plastic bags that decompose in over 100 years.
