State Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and business representative detained in corruption case
A state secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) and a representative of an economic agent were detained today in a criminal case initiated on corruption charges.
According to the National Anticorruption Center (CNA), the representative of the economic agent allegedly handed over money to the state secretary so that he would influence responsible officials within the National Food Safety Agency to resume the authorization for importing feed for poultry and animals from Ukraine. Previously, the import procedure had been suspended by ANSA following irregularities found during conducted inspections.
Currently, CNA officers and anticorruption prosecutors are conducting searches in the office of the MAIA state secretary, as well as at other locations, in order to collect and strengthen the body of evidence.
Criminal investigation actions are ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the case, identify the persons involved, and document the entire criminal activity.
