Alegeri parlamentare 2025

STISC reported multiple cyberattack attempts on electoral infrastructure

The Information Technology and Cyber Security Service (STISC) reported multiple cyberattack attempts on electoral infrastructure on September 27-28, 2025. Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced that all attacks were found and neutralized in real-time, without affecting the electoral process.

According to STISC, the targets included CEC.md platform, government cloud service systems, and automated process assurance systems, as well as some voting stations in diaspora.

"Incidents included distributed denial of service attacks - including one orchestrated simultaneously from multiple countries, with over 16 million sessions generated, designed to simulate real traffic and bypass protection systems - attempts to inject malicious code into databases, and infections with malicious software at voting stations," announced STISC.

To mitigate the effects, STISC had to block host.md, which temporarily restricted about 4,000 sites.

Recean announced that "attacks are orchestrated simultaneously to overload STISC network, which serves the CEC and other electoral infrastructure."

The official assured that "all attacks were detected and neutralized in real-time, without affecting the electoral process."

Parliamentary elections are being held in the Republic of Moldova today.
