Chisinau, 9 February /MOLDPRES/-The Supreme Council of Magistracy ( CSM) today re-elected Mihai Poalelungi as the chairman of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ).

Poalelungi was the only candidate running for the position of CSJ chairman, which caused discontent among the civil society. Thus, dozens of people protested outside CSM today to voice their discontent and disagreement with Poalelungi’s re-appointment into this position.

Attending the protest was also the leader of DA Platform (Dignity and Truth), Andrei Nastase, who said that Poalelungi did not meet all the meritocracy and integrity principles needed to hold this responsible position.

For his part, CSM chairman, Victor Micu, said “the contest was transparent and everyone had the right to apply. As there were no other candidates, CSM is compelled to examine even a single candidacy”.

Mihai Poalelungi was appointed as chairman of the Supreme Court of Justice in 2012.

According to the current legislation, the CSJ chairman is elected for a four-year term by CSM and is voted by the parliament.
