National customs system marks 26th anniversary of creation

Chisinau, 5 September /MOLDPRES/- The national customs system celebrated today the 26th anniversary of creation.

On this occasion, a ceremony titled: “Modernize Customs – Facilitate Trade” was organized. The event was organized with the support of the project “Assistance to the implementation of the EU High-Level Advisers Mission to Moldova”. Attending the event were members of the government, parliament and central public authorities, as well as representatives of diplomatic missions and business environment.

Customs Service director Vitalie Vrabie said that during 26 years, the service had undergone a string of changes and restructuring, due to which outstanding results are currently being achieved. “At present, 60 per cent of all budget revenues are made by the Customs Service. We thank the members of the government, development partners and all customs officers for the performance of their duties. In the future, we will continue to ensure the implementation of commitments to our partners and create a competitive entrepreneurial environment based on fair competition”, Vrabie said.

“Together we have developed economic and trade policies, due to which we have managed to apply best practices in customs legislation. We will continue to work to meet all the challenges. We have good results on budget, we have a good team and a successful system approach, which is a common merit of internal and external efforts”, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Octavian Calmic.

For his part, Finance Minister Octavian Armasu noted that in the first eight months of 2017, budget revenues increased by over 18 per cent compared to the same period of the previous year. “We are grateful for the effort of those working in the Customs Service and helping to improve the business climate for growth in the economy. Progress is possible due to the efforts of those who work, so I am sending you good wishes, hope to continue to do good things”, Armasu said.

The Customs Service includes 67 posts with over 1,500 employees.

The history of the national customs system begins immediately after the proclamation of independence, namely, on 4 September 1991, when the presidential decree on subordination of customs institutions     entered into force.
