Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/ - More than 160 sea ships have been erased from the State Register of Ships for diverse infringements of the law in the last two years, the head of the Habour Master’s Office of the Giurgiulesti Port, Victor Andrusca, has said.

According to Andrusca, among the most frequent infringements, there were: inadequate technical condition of ships, entrance in banned ports, presentation of forged papers. “We also erased from the register ships which are no longer effective or have technical problems which cannot be removed. Yet, after their erasing, we also have losses of financial resources, necessary for the budget,” Andrusca noted.

The head of the Giurgiulesti port specified that, in the last two years, the owners of more ships under Moldovan banner had got prescriptions and warnings. “Just recently the owner of a ship recorded in Moldova has been warned and detained for technical deficiencies in the Norwegian port Mosjoen. If another incident with the involvement of this ship is recorded, it will be erased from the Register.”

Victor Andrusca also said the cargo-type ship Stalvard under Moldova’s banner, detained in Norway, had been constructed in 1958 and had changed its banner three times in the last eight years. The company which manages the ship is Norwegian, just as the commander of the ship. The other members of the crew are Ukrainian and Polish citizens.

According to Andrusca, over 300 sea and river ships are presently registered under Moldova’s banner, of which one made in 1933.

Moldova has been included, for ten years, in the black list of the Paris Memorandum – an organization which establishes the performance index of the state under the banner of which the ships works, in order to enhance the sea safety. Moldova ranks 70th out of 73 countries of the world, next to Togo, Tanzania and Congo.
