New round of 5+2 negotiations starts in Vienna

Chisinau, 27 November /MOLDPRES/- A new round of 5+2 negotiations began in Vienna, Austria, today. Talks will be held on the most current topics on the agenda, in particular, on the issues of the so-called Berlin+ package.

The Berlin+ package includes the following topics: owners’ access to land in Dubasari district, Latin-script schools, ensuring freedom of movement, reopening of the Gura Bacului bridge, restoring the telephone connection between both banks of the Dniester river, apostille diplomas issued by educational institutions in the Transnistrian region, registration of means of transport in the Transnistrian region and change of registration plates in the region.

At the same time, on 18 November, the bridge between Gura Bacului and Bacioc was reopened by Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Tiraspol leader Vadim Krasnoselski. Two days ago, Deputy Prime Minister, Chisinau’s political representative Gheorghe Balan and political representative of the Transnistrian region Vitali Ignatiev signed four protocols on solving several social and economic issues on both banks of the Dniestre river.

The four protocols provide for: god functioning of Latin-script schools in the region, access of farmers from Dubasari to the agricultural lands located on Tiraspol route, apostille of the diplomas issued by the education institutions from the Transnistrian region, providing mobile and stationary telephone connection between the two banks of the Dniestre river.

A new round of negotiations in the 5+2 format takes place in Vienna on 27-28 November 2017. Representatives of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Russia, Ukraine, the United States of America and the European Union are involved in the 5+2 negotiations on the Transnistrian conflict as mediators and observers.

The purpose of the 5+2 format is to work out parameters for a comprehensive settlement, based on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders, with a special status for Transnistria.
