Survey shows wine Moldovans' favourite alcoholic beverage

Chisinau, 12 December /MOLDPRES/ - The wine is the favourite alcoholic drink of Moldovans. It is followed by beer, sparkling wines, brandy and vodka, according to a survey carried out and unveiled by the company iData: date inteligente (iData: intelligent data). The findings are contained in an analysis of the industry of wines and consumption habits, conducted within the iData Winter School.    

Under the analysis, most people questioned (about 40 per cent) opted for house wine; over 30 per cent will choose both house wine and industrial wine, and only about 15 per cent of the respondents said they liked wines produced at factories.  

Most (about 40 per cent) of the polled people said they were buying wines from specialized shops, approximately 30 per cent – from large shops, about 25 per cent – from producer and only a small number of consumers said they were buying wine from people or from small shops nearby their homes or offices.  

At the same time, the tastes of respondents in terms of wine differ depending on gender. Thus, women would prefer the Muscat variety, while men chose Cabernet-Sauvignion. Among the wines Moldovans like, there are Chardonnay, Merlot, Rară Neagră, Feteasca, Pinot noir, etc. Another data from the iData analysis refer to the exports of wines, prices policy, brands and companies, etc.      

”It is not about a nationwide survey; yet, data was validated by a group of competent experts, who say that wine producers will find here relevant information, which is to directly and efficiently orient their work,” the executive manager of iData, Mihail Bologan, said.   

The survey’s data was collected on 6-10 December, with a target group of persons with ages ranging from 18 and 45 years, with the participation of experts from the National Statistics Bureau, Finance Ministry, National Bank, Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry, etc. The iData Winter School is a project for promoting abilities of research among young people.
