British MPs welcome developments in Moldova, encourage governance to continue country's modernization

Chisinau, 12 December /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today met members of the joint group of friendship with Moldova of the parliament of the United Kingdom, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.  

The discussions were focused on the agenda of reforms, projects and actions meant to modernize Moldova, strengthen the democracy and the rule of law state, fortify the economy and diminish the unemployment and migration.

In the context, Andrian Candu highlighted the First Home state programme, passed in the first reading already, subsidization of new jobs, the social project on meal vouchers.  

Also, the speaker informed the friendship group members about the opening of the NATO Liaison Office in Chisinau. The office will help consolidate the capacities of intervention in cases of civilian emergencies, fight cyber threats, reform of the security sector and counteract the terrorism.  

Attending the meeting were the head of the joint friendship group, John Whittingdale, co-head Lord Dubs, Lord Wasserman and Lord German. The officials discussed also challenges Moldova should cope with, as well as the fight against the propaganda and measures undertaken to counteract the misinformation and manipulation, which encroach upon the security, not only of the country, but also in the region.

The representatives of the two chambers of the British parliament welcomed the developments recorded by Moldova since the last meeting in February 2017 and encouraged the Moldovan governance to continue the process.  

In the end, Andrian Candu invited the officials to pay a visit to Moldova.

The security subjects were discussed at a roundtable organized by the British think-tank Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).

On 10-12 December, Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu is on visit to London to take part in more events dedicated to road safety. Candu also has meetings with more officials from the United Kingdom.
