Moldovan Democratic Party submits notification to top court on president's repeated refusal to appoint ministers

Chisinau, 28 December /MOLDPRES/ - The MPs of the Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM) today submitted a notification to the Constitutional Court (CCM) on the repeated refusal by head of state Igor Dodon to appoint to offices more ministers put up by the Filip Government. The notification was filed on behalf of  the parliament’s juridical commission for rules and immunities.

The MPs demanded that the magistrates ascertain the circumstances in which the interim duties of the Moldovan president’s office can be set and the persons who will be able to invest the new ministers with duties.

A PDM lawmaker, Sergiu Sirbu, has said that the settlement of the institutional blockage was demanded by this notification; the blockage emerged after a repeated refusal by the head of state to appoint to posts the ministers put forward. “I am sorry that we are entering the New Year with this blockage; we demanded that the Court considers this notification urgently. Therefore, we hope that, next week, or after the Christmas marked according to the old style, we receive the answer on behalf of judges and have a functional government,” Sirbu said.

President Igor Dodon today repeatedly rejected the candidacies to the offices of ministers, put up by the government. The official reasoned the refusal by the fact that “most candidates put forward proved inconsistency, lack of professionalism, and some of them were directly or indirectly involved in the bank fraud.”

The Moldovan head of state has earlier refused to sign a decree on the appointment of Eugen Sturza as Defence Minister. At that time, the cabinet appealed to the Constitutional Court to clear up the situation. The CCM magistrates ruled that the president was in inability to exercise his duties temporarily and the decree was signed by Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu.
