Chisinau, 10 January /MOLDPRES/- The nominated ministers took the oath today. The appointment decrees were signed by Speaker Andrian Candu, temporarily acting as president of the country, after Igor Dodon repeatedly rejected the candidates proposed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip.

Following the reshuffle of the government, a new post of deputy premier for European Integration was created, which will be held by Iurie Leanca, former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. Also, the position of deputy premier for reintegration will be held by Cristina Lesnic, who previously worked in the Interior Ministry.

At the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, the minister office will be held by Chiril Gaburici, former premier, and Svetlana Cebotari will hold the position at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection. The field of agriculture, regional development and environment will be managed by Liviu Volconovici, and Tudor Ulianovschi will be head of the Foreign and European Integration Ministry. The field of justice will be led by Alexandru Tanase.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip congratulated the newly appointed ministers. “The year 2018 will not be easy, because it is an electoral one, and I voice confidence you will work intensively and keep away from debates and political disputes. We need to focus on people’s problems and come up with solutions. I am sure this will happen, even if you do not have much time to get accustomed positions”, he said.

Candu voiced confidence in the new government team. He hopes it will complete the difficult reforms. “May this new year to write a new page in the history of the country, a page full of achievements and success”, he said.

Only four ministers remained at their posts. It is about: Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc, Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan, Finance Minister Octavian Armasu and Defense Minister Eugen Sturza.

On 2 January 2018, the Constitutional Court issued a notification saying that the speaker or premier may sign the decree appointing new members of government and take their oath. Magistrates have found that Igor Dodon’s deliberate refusal to fulfill constitutional obligation to appoint new members of government on a repeated proposal by the premier is a violation of constitutional obligations and justifies the establishment of interim office.
