Chisinau, 7 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip, in the beginning of a today’s cabinet meeting, informed that the government of Ukraine had approved the agreement on joint control of persons, transport means and goods at the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border checkpoints. The document is to be ratified by the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada (parliament), Filip also said. He asked the institutions in charge to be well-prepared for the enforcement of this agreement.
The introduction of control on the Transnistrian segment of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border is very important for Moldova. Some people expressed concern about the opening of the Moldovan-Ukrainian joint control at the Kuchurgan-Pervomaysk state border checkpoint on the Transnistrian segment. Yet, neither the economic agents nor the residents suffered as a result of this, as they invoked; on the contrary, they took advantage, Prime Minister Filip stressed.
The establishment of joint control is provided for in the law on the state border of Moldova and is a requirement for the implementation of the Association Agreement with EU. The conclusion of the agreement “will contribute essentially to the development and strengthening of the cooperation ties between the institutions with powers at the border, in the interest and to the advantage of both states, in order to ensure the security of the state border between Moldova and Ukraine.”
