Moldova, Portugal mark 25 years of diplomatic relations' establishment

Chisinau, 10 February /MOLDPRES/ – In the context of the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Moldova and Portugal, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, and Portuguese counterpart, Augusto Santos Silva, sent a congratulatory message on this occasion, the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.

The message mentions that within 25 years of diplomatic relations, the Moldovan – Portuguese dialogue has developed and deepened, anchored on friendship ties between Moldova and Portugal. The ministers noted with mutual satisfaction successful integration of important Moldovan community in Portugal, which contribution to approach between the two peoples is of major importance.

The officials pointed out the event to be not only a feast, but also a good opportunity to express mutual commitment to expand and deepen the bilateral agenda in political, economic and cultural fields for the benefit of our peoples and prosperity of both countries.

The high officials also outlined that friendship and cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Portuguese Republic is not strictly limited to the bilateral level. They also extend to international organisations in a beneficial cooperation, especially within EU, but also with UN and other multilateral fora. Portugal has supported and encouraged the continuation of the reform programme in progress in Moldova within European Union. The officials noted that Moldova was the first Eastern Partnership country to benefit from a liberalised visa regime for the European Union, which is an important development in bringing the country closer to the European institutions.
