Foreign minister presents Moldova’s position at UN Human Rights Council

Chisinau, 28 February /MOLDPRES/ – Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, presented today the position of Moldova at the High Level Segment of the 37th Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.
In his speech, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi appreciated the support of the Office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and UN Special Rapporteurs, offered to Moldova, in order to mobilize the national efforts to implement the human rights agenda and reform judiciary system. 
The priorities of Moldova in promoting and protecting human rights were also highlighted, as well as necessary actions to be undertaken at national level with an active involvement of the civil society and NGOs that work on promotion of human rights and implementation of reforms at the governmental level, according to commitments taken by Moldova in Association Agreement with EU and international UN treaties. 
In the context of Moldova’s Presidency of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM in 2018, Minister of Foreign Affairs presented to UN member states the joint statement of four GUAM member states – Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, urging international community to be more vocal on protection of  fundamental rights of people affected by conflicts within  GUAM area, emphasizing protection of human rights in the Transnistrean region.
On the margins of the Human Rights Council, Minister Ulianovschi had a bilateral meeting with the UN High Commissioner for Human Right, ZeidRa'ad Al Hussein. The two diplomats discussed on commitment of Government to streamline efforts in implementation of human rights policies, adoption of the National Human Rights Action Plan for 2018 – 2022 and candidature of Moldova to the Human Rights Council for 2020 – 2022.
