Interparliamentary conference in Chisinau means what deserve people from Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine

Chisinau, 03 March /MOLDPRES/ – “Moldova joined forces with Georgia and Ukraine to meet challenges and transformations that the three countries are going through,” said Andrian Candu, at the end of the events organised in margins of high – level interparliamentary conference: Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: Eastern Partnership and Current Security Challenges, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

At his turn, Speaker of Parliament of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, said that events and decisions taken in Chisinau were about friendship and peace, what people in these countries deserve. "A year ago, I understood that we have not only a common past, but we can have a future together," said Speaker of Supreme Rada of Ukraine, Andriy Parubiy.

Executive vice president of Atlantic Council, Damond Wilson, said that United States has helped people in the three countries to be heard and be free from foreign occupation. In this sense, according to him, the US Congress has an important role to play. This position was also backed by Congressman Ted Poe, who spoke about the right of the three nations to fully enjoy freedom, independence and true territorial integrity. Congressman Poe invited the three Speakers to hold a meeting with speaker Paul Ryan and the three friendships groups in the US Congress. "We need to be partners for stability, freedom and peace in Eastern Europe. I encourage you to work together, because together you are unstoppable," he said.

Former US Ambassador to Moldova, Asif Chaudhry, said the US should support Moldova, stop aggression and ensure territorial integrity of the three states.

Speaker of Parliament, Andrian Candu, awarded Andriy Parubiy, Irakli Kobakhidze and Damond Wilson with Medal of Democracy as a sign of great appreciation for their significant contribution to developing and deepening friendship and cooperation relations with Moldova.

On 02 March, in Chişinău, at the initiative of Speakers of Parliaments of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia, it was organised, in partnership with the Atlantic Council, high – level Interparliamentary Conference: Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: Eastern Partnership and Current Security Challenges.

At the conference, Speakers of Parliaments of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine announced setting up a trilateral meeting in Eastern Partnership, an initiative making these countries stronger facing security challenges of today and implementation of reforms.

There were debated issues related to info security, energy, defence, as well as economic growth and rule of law at Conference in Chisinau. The event gathered around 150 high – level officials and experts, including speakers from Legislative, MEPs, US Congress representatives, international and regional experts.
