Local authorities allocate MDL 21 million for street lighting in Chisinau

Chisinau, 05 March /MOLDPRES/ – The local authorities allocated MDL 21 million to illuminate pedestrian crossings, parks and squares in Chisinau. The announcement was made by leadership of municipal company: Lumteh, Veaceslav But, within weekly meeting of the Chisinau city hall today.

The amount of MDL 21 million is contained in investment plan for 2018 of municipal company: Lumteh. "This year, it is expected to prolong lighting of pedestrian crossings in Chisinau city. A particular attention will be paid to public lighting in municipal parks and squares. According to the plan, lighting networks will be rehabilitated in parks: La Izvor, Rascani, Valea Morilor and Valea Trandafirilor, said Veaceslav But.  

The quoted source said that on the main arteries in Chisinau the lighting units will be replaced with LEDs. "Totally, around 1,500 LED lighting fixtures will be installed on street Ciuflea, on Viaduct linking sectors Botanica and Centru, streets Calea Iesilor, Alba Iulia, boulevards Moscova, Kiev, Mircea cel Batran and in the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN). Currently, there are only 30 – 40 per cent of LED headlights in Chisinau. These ones are characterised by lower electricity consumption of almost 50 per cent," said Veaceslav But.   

Also, MDL 3 million, out of total amount, will be allocated for illuminating yards and MDL 5 million – for lighting of road sections nearby budgetary institutions.

Previously, several NGOs had called on local authorities to replace the number of streetlights and signaled lack of illumination on pedestrian crossings.
