Municipal hospitals of Chisinau to strengthen precautions against influenza

Chisinau, 09 March /MOLDPRES/ – The managers of municipal clinical hospitals will intensify precautionary and protective measures of medical staff in upcoming days and provide conditions for isolation of patients with acute respiratory infections or influenza. The Ministry of Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection (MSMPS) issued an order related to it.

According to the ministry of the MSMPS’s information and media communication service, patients with influenza will be consulted in emergency receiving unit and, if necessary, hospitalised in the Municipal Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases for Children.

There will be consulted and hospitalised patients with tonsils with complications from acute respiratory infections at Municipal Hospital for Children V. Ignatenco.

The consultation and hospitalisation of children up to three years with acute diarrheal diseases will be ensured in Municipal Clinical Hospital for Children №01.

Similarly, Public Medical Sanitary Institutions: Territorial Medical Associations, University Clinic, Healthcare Centres and Private Medical Centres will organise and ensure necessary hospitalisation of patients with seasonal influenza, acute infections of upper respiratory tract and acute severe respiratory infections.

According to data presented by the National Agency for Public Healthcare, on 26.02.2018 – 04.03.2018, doctors recorded 1,606 new cases of acute respiratory infections, 12.8 per cent more compared to recent week. The share of severe acute respiratory infections accounted for 3.9 per cent of the total number of admissions.

Also, there were 171 new flu cases during the period, of which 134 in Chisinau.

The epidemiologists recommend to citizens refrain from self – treatment and contact their doctor for first symptoms of influenza – compatible disease, as to avoid illness, avoid contact with pregnant women, immunocompromised persons, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes and obesity patients.

The physicians also urge population and medical staff to use protective masks when assisting and caring for sick ones. The doctors’ recommendations include handwashing with water and soap, covering mouth and nose with disposable napkins during cough and sneezing and avoiding crowded places.
