Road traffic on national roads in winter conditions

Chisinau, 20 March /MOLDPRES/- Road traffic on national roads is ensured in winter conditions and all dangerous sectors are constantly monitored. The head of the operational service of the State Road Administration, Sergiu Capatina, made the statement today.

Works of patrol, snow removal and anti-ice were carried out on national roads last night. “There were 143 special vehicles and over 300 workers. Roadmen used over 1,192 tons of anti-skid material. At present, all road sectors are monitored,” Capatina said.

The press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, Liliana Puscasu, said that during the last 24 hours, the rescue and firemen teams intervened to tow transport blocked in snow. “Firefighters helped unlock and tow eleven means of transport. Three ambulances and a school bus were blocked in the snow. Most interventions by firefighters took place in Comrat, where the IGSU employees unlocked five trucks of snow. The intervention of rescuers was also needed in Hancesti, Straseni, Soroca, Telenesti, Orhei and Chisinau,” Puscasu said.

At the same time, the Customs Service announced that the Cosauti crossing point resumed its activity this morning. Its activity was stopped on 15 March, due to the increase of the water level in the Dniestre river.

The State Hydrometeorological Service announced Yellow Code of sudden change of weather, valid on 17-22 March. Meteorologists forecast snowfall, cold waves. At the same time, the air temperatures will record -2 degrees during the day and -8 degrees at night in the coming days.
