Moldovan MPs consider report on activity of Audiovisual Coordination Council

Chisinau, 30 March /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today considered a report on the activity of Moldova’s Audiovisual Coordination Council (CCA) for 2017.  

Data unveiled by CCA head Dragos Vicol shoes that, in 2017, the institution issued 19 authorizations of re-broadcasting, re-concluded 40 and withdrew 12 authorizations of this kind. At the same time, the media watchdog issued 36 broadcasting licences, declared 31 licences invalid, withdrew ten licences and re-concluded the conditions of 32 broadcasting license.   

According to Vicol, also in 2017, three radio frequencies were distributed, including one frequency for the first radio station for the Romanies’ community. In the context of the reforms in the audiovisual sector, as for the increase of the native audiovisual product in the radio and TV broadcasters’ services of programmes, CCA approved 152 general concepts of services of programmes of audiovisual media institutions from Moldova.

“On the concerned period, CCA sanctioned 24 radio and TV broadcasters for non-observance of legal norms in the audiovisual field, imposed 60 sanctions, of which 34 public warnings and 26 fines,” Vicol noted.   

In the end of the report’s presentation, Vicol gave assurances that CCA would work more in 2018, which is an electoral year. “We will make every effort for the parliamentary elections due in 2018 to be won by the citizens and not by TV stations,” the CCA head stressed.

Statistics data shows that, on 1 January 2018, 183 holders of licences and authorizations of rebroadcasting were recorded on the market of audiovisual media services from Moldova.
