Speaker of parliament evokes Moldovan's priorities on road safety at meeting of Global Network of Legislators

Chisinau, 14 April /MOLDPRES/ – "The road safety is a priority concern for Government, and that is why, as Speaker of Parliament, I set up a parliamentary control platform where to analise and evaluate traffic safety policies," said Speaker of Parliament at a working meeting of road safety Global Network of Legislators – updating road safety Manifesto and activities for 2018, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

Andrian Candu made a presentation of initiated activities as Speaker of Parliament, but also ambassador of road safety in Moldova. In particular, he referred on the given support to initiative to create a national road safety management entity, road safety fund (FSR) and a database on estimation of high – risk road sections. Candu also announced determination to introduce an educational road safety module, starting with pre – school cycle. The Speaker of Parliament said that Parliament, Government and civil society would continue to work together with international partners to ensure safe road infrastructure and to increase safety of persons.

"This year, Government launched a comprehensive national roadside programme for Moldova and road safety component is approached as priority. All road infrastructure projects will be implemented taking European security standards into account ", said SP.

The meeting talks focused on overall objectives to be achieved in the field of road safety being equally supported by representatives of UNO and EU. Moldova subscribed to commitments. According to Andrian Candu, tragedies caused by accidents can be reduced substantially and persons return home safely every day, if it is taken into account new road safety requirements, infrastructure projects and correct education of all road users.

Speaker of Parliament, Andrian Candu, pays a visit to USA on 11 – 19 April  2018. The SP took floor at UN General Assembly on road safety, several meetings with lawmakers and UN officials. Given the good cooperation established of SP and members of two Chambers of English Parliament, it was made an exchange of views on agenda of Lord Dubs.

Andrian Candu was appointed Ambassador of road safety in 2017 by Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport. Moldova signed UN Resolution on declaring 2011 – 2020: Decade of road safety action. Andrian Candu promoted an info and awareness campaign for safe transport of children, facilitated organisation of more exhibitions, dissemination of materials on risks of over – speeding, distributed reflective materials in schools and made more efforts to supplement road signs of pedestrian crossings, especially in area of ​​schools in 2017.
