Moldovan foreign minister leads first meeting of regional coordinators on reviving UN intergovernmental mechanisms

Chisinau, 17 April /MOLDPRES/- The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will contribute to implementing the sustainable development goals through concrete projects in the commercial and economic field. Foreign and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi made the statement as Head of the Trade and Development Board of UNCTAD at the first meeting of regional coordinators on the revival of UN intergovernmental mechanisms, held in Geneva.

According to the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media relations service, the mandate for strengthening the activity of the UNCTAD was adopted at the ministerial conference in the context of UN reform and aims at consolidating the relations between UN specialized agencies to implement the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.

In this context, UNCTAD’s expertise in areas such as – technology exchange, e-commerce, development finance, trade facilitation and investment will be presented by Ulianovschi on 23-27 April 2018 at United Nations forums in New York, including the UN General Assembly and UN Economic and Social Council ECOSOC. At the same time, UNCTAD’s recommendations on trade and economic policies will allow the implementation of concrete trade and economic projects at regional and global level.

In New York, Ulianovschi will hold talks with UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed, ECOSOC President Marie Chatardova, as well as other representatives of UN leadership.

UNCTAD Secretary-General Mukhisa Kituyi also attended the event.
