The cabinet today approved a regulation on the establishment and payment of daily allowance for children, who temporarily or permanently remained without parental care, are placed in social or guardianship/trusteeship services and who attend an education institution.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, starting from the fifth form and till turning 18, the children will daily receive 10 lei, 100  lei on the occasion of the birthday and 70 lei on holidays. The allowance will be annually increased on 1 April, depending on the increase of prices during the year before.

The financial assistance will be provided as of 1 January 2018. As much as 10.4 million lei has been provided for in the state budget on this purpose. As many as 2,600 children will benefit from this allowance in all.

“Besides the fact that this is a social project, besides that fact that this is a financial aid, it is important that these children will learn to manage their own money. The regulation was worked out in the context of the carrying out of the government’s action plan for 2016-2018, as well as of an action plan on the implementation of the strategy of child’s protection for 2014-2020.
