African swine fever outbreak detected in south – eastern village of Moldova

Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/ – An outbreak of African swine fever was recorded in a household in Palanca village, Stefan Voda district. The Republican Veterinary Diagnostic Centre (CRDV), through lab trials, confirmed on 26 April infection in domestic pigs in a private household in that locality, the ANSA’s information and media communication service has reported.
As soon as the District Food Safety Board Stefan Voda was informed about occurrence of cases of illness, specialists of subdivision went on spot to examine situation, where they took samples for lab tests and imposed restrictions on movement of animals.
Head of Stefan Voda district, Nicolae Molozea, gathered today the Exceptional anti – epidemic commission, which has developed and approved a Plan of measures to combat and eradicate the outbreak.
Following confirmation of outbreak by CRDV, ANSA notified the national and EU structures, the World Organisation for Animal Health and other external partners about the outbreak of African swine fever on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
The epidemiological survey is ongoing and is carried out by a team of inspectors of the territorial food safety subdivision Stefan Voda in collaboration with other competent state institutions.
In context of the African swine fever outbreak, ANSA through the district level territorial structures continuously monitors epizootic situation to limit spread of disease and its eradication. Similarly, the agency asks pig owners to inform urgently about animal disease, perish of animals or wild boar corpses, and recommends compliance with minimum biosecurity requirements.
