Moldovan PM says authorities set to fulfill conditions to benefit from EU's assistance till end of parliamentary session

Chisinau, 03 May /MOLDPRES/ – The authorities of Moldova propose by end of the spring – summer parliamentary session, they will meet all conditionality for three installments of macro – financial assistance. The statement was made today by Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, at a press conference held in Brussels jointly with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, and the European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Negotiations Enlargement, Johannes Hahn.

The Prime Minister appreciated positively relations of Moldova and the European Union and stated that they have been becoming more and more dynamic and contribute to consolidation of democracy in Moldova.

"We will advance process of European integration. We intend to promote reforms at a rhythm and keep ourselves out of politics and electoral campaign. Our objective is cooperation with the EU and OSCE in several important areas. We will take action to combat corruption and prevent money laundering, strengthen institutional framework and achieve judicial reform. We discussed today about bank fraud and mentioned that work is currently being done to recover funds. Similarly, there have been positive developments in financial – banking sector, which will allow investors to come to Moldova. At the same time, I noticed that volume of trade with the EU has increased due to free trade agreement. We thank the EU for assistance it provides. The authorities in Chisinau suggest by end of the spring – summer parliamentary session, they will fulfill all the conditionality for all three installments of macro – financial assistance. We will make European integration irreversible, which will remain priority of number one and after parliamentary elections, where we are open to international observers that will monitor electoral process," said Filip.

"We reiterated that all previously set agreements need to be fulfilled. These include mass media sector, justice and fight against corruption. The Council of Europe aims to help Moldova including its energy security. The European Union will also continue to provide necessary assistance in settling the Transnistrian conflict for benefit of citizens on both sides of the Dniester river. It is important for Moldova to implement all points provided for within Association Agreement and we will provide necessary assistance in it," said Federica Mogherini.

At his turn, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, encouraged Moldova to continue reforms in a transparent manner. "The European Union will continue to provide necessary support to carry out reforms and fulfill established conditionality," said the official.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip pays a visit to Brussels on 02 – 06 May, where he attends the fourth meeting of the Moldova – EU Association Council.
