Moldovan actor, stage manager marks 50th birthday anniversary

Chisinau, 10 May /MOLDPRES/ - An actor, stage manager, director of the Luceafarul Republican Theatre, former culture minister, Master in Arts, Merited Artist Boris Focsa turned 50 today.    

Boris Focsa was born in the Saratenii Vechi village, central Telenesti district, in 1968. In 1988-1992, he studied at the State University of Arts, specialty of theatre and cinema actor, class of Emil Loteanu master and in 1992-95 – at the same institution at the stage management specialty, class of the Veniamin Apostol professor. In 2001, Focsa made probation in the USA and in 2002 – studied for master’s degree and management at the Academy of Public Administration under the Government of Moldova. Presently, he trains for his doctor’s decree at the George Enescu Arts University from Iasi, Romania.     

In 1992, Boris Focsa was employed at the Mihai Eminescu theatre and studio and in 1995-1996, he worked as stage manager at the A.P. Chekhov Russian Dramatic State. In 1998, Focsa acted as specialist and coordinator at the Culture Ministry’s Theatre and Music Department. In 2000, he was artistic director of the history course at the State University of Arts, in 1998-2009 – artistic director of the Luceafarul Republican Theatre and in 2006 – 2009, member of the Council of Observers of the National Public Broadcasting Institution, State Company Teleradio Moldova.  

Under a degree by Moldova’s president, on 25 September 2009, Boris Focsa was appointed Culture Minister; we acted till 2013 in this position. Starting from 2013 till present, he has worked as director of the Luceafarul Republican Theatre.     

At the Luceafarul Theater, Boris Focsa staged more plays, Lady Windermere’s Fan by Oscar Wilde, Princess Turandot by Carlo Gozzi, The Threepenny Opera by B. Brecht, Romeo and Juliette by William Shakespeare, The Evening Star by Mihai Eminescu, The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov and others.    

Boris Focsa was awarded more prizes for stage management, including at the 22nd issue of the International Theatre Festival from Cairo, Egypt.
