Moldova to mark International Museum Day, European Museum Night

Chisinau, 16 May /MOLDPRES/ - More cultural actions will be carried out all over Moldova on 18 May, on the occasion of the 14th issue of the International Museum Day and on 19 May, when the European Museum Night will be marked.
At a today’s news conference, Education, Culture and Research Minister Monica Babuc said that, for the fifth year in a row, the festivities dedicated to the International Museum Day and European Museum Night are organized under the patronage of the ministry, which shows the importance of these events.
In the context, the official stressed that the figure of visitors in the European Night was on the rise. Thus, according to data presented, in 2017, the museum institutions registered 618,280 visitors; in 2016, this number was of 271,393 visitors. ‘’We are happy that the total number of visitors is continuously increasing, so that, in 2017, we find out a rise of about 127 per cent against the previous year, which proves the public’s increased interest in exhibitions and museum collections. I urge you to celebrate the International Museum Day and the European Museum Night this year as well, by participating in numerous museum activities from all over the country,’’ Monica Babuc said.
The official noted that the International Museum Day had been established in 1977, at an initiative by the Ministry of Culture and Communication from France, being marked on 18 May. The this year issue of the Day, titled, Inter-museum connections: new approaches, new challenges, is dedicated to the need to adapt museums to the tendencies of the society, so that the museums implement information technologies, in order to present their collections including in the virtual environment.
