Moldovan association of observers depicts violations in conduct of local electoral process

Chisinau, 20 May /MOLDPRES/ – The observation mission Promo – LEX found some violations in conduct of electoral process in new local elections held in seven localities in Moldova. The statement was made today by the director of the organisation and head of Promo – LEX observer mission, Pavel Postica, at a press conference.

According to cited source, access of all Promo – LEX observers was provided in polling stations.

"There were identified 11 posters near 11 out of 375 polling sections, which is a violation. There are 27 sections which opened with a delay of up to 15 minutes. At the same time, in 15 polling stations the ballot boxes were not sealed properly. In five sections, number of ballots is bigger than 3,000, which is a violation. Similarly, around 1,500 home polling applications have been filed," said Postica.

The head of Promo – LEX specified that there were unjustified presence of some people in 15 polling stations. "A case of organised transport of voters in Jora de Mijloc commune in Orhei district was also reported. Likewise, in 42 polling stations ballots are not kept in safe places. There were also two cases of deficiencies in electoral lists – registration of unknown persons at certain addresses. Also, there are not all necessary materials for carrying out electoral process in 4 polling stations. There have also been reported several technical deficiencies in election system. A case of photographing ballot was established in Chisinau," said Pavel Postica.

Promo – Lex has delegated observers to all 375 polling stations in localities where new local elections are taking place today. They will monitor electoral process starting with opening of polling stations and counting votes. Similarly, there are mobile teams monitoring electoral process outside sections.

Today, new mayors are elected in seven localities: Chisinau municipality, Balti municipality, Leuseni commune and Nemteni village (Hancesti district), Volovita commune (Soroca district), Jora de Mijloc (Orhei district) and Parlita commune (Ungheni district).
