Moldovan electoral body unveils preliminary results of local polls

Chisinau, 21 May /MOLDPRES/- The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today presented the preliminary results of the local polls held on 20 May 2018. The candidate of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), Ion Ceban (40.98 per cent), and the candidate of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party (PPDA), Andrei Nastase (32.09 per cent), will fight for the Chisinau general mayor office in the run-off of the new local polls. In Balti municipality, the candidate of Our Party, Nicolae Grigorisin, picked up about 62 per cent of the votes.

According to data, in Chisinau Ion Ceban and Andrei Nastase are followed by independent candidate Silvia Radu, who got about 18 per cent of votes. More than 225,000 citizens participated in the local elections in Chisinau, which accounts for almost 36 per cent of the voters.

In the Balti municipality, 36,875 citizens participated in the elections, 62 per cent of them voted for candidate of Our Party Nicolae Grigorisin. He is followed by Alexandru Usatii (Party of Socialists) – 19 per cent.

New local elections took place on 20 May in Leuseni, Hancesti district, where PDM candidate Ion Dragan was elected mayor of the first round (over 90 per cent of voters). Nemteni village, Hancesti district, elected the mayor of the first round. Over 82 per cent of residents voted for PDM candidate Maria Ghitu.

In Volovita village, Soroca district, PDM candidate Ghenadie Nistrean got 79 per cent of votes. In Parlita village, Ungheni district, PDM candidate Stanislav Babutac got the most votes – over 85 per cent. In Jora de Mijloc, Orhei district, 61.07 per cent was won by candidate of Shor party Marina Tauber.
